Welcome to the home of RI Lambs Academy, Fortuna Start, and Fortuna RI

Who Are We? Fortuna RI is Rhode Island’s newest elite girls soccer organization. After completing a successful first year with the U-16 Fortuna RI team (which will be a U-17 Team for 2008), the club is adding a second, younger, age group (U-14 Fortuna Start) to bring the total of teams to two. Fortuna places a heavy emphasis on professional player development and all teams will be coached and trained by a member of the University of Rhode Island Women’s Soccer Staff. The goal of the club is to develop the soccer talent in the State of Rhode Island in a fun, competitive environment.
In 2007 Fortuna RI successfully competed in MAPLE and a number of tournaments around the Northeast. Fortuna RI also represented Jamestown in the State Cup, losing in the Semi-Finals after winning their Qualification Group.
Fortuna RI was founded by the women's soccer coaches at the University of Rhode Island, Zac Shaw, Lauren Molinaro, and Emily Shaw in the Fall of 2007 with the help of many dedicated parents primarily from the "South County" area of Rhode Island. It was founded as only one age group to ensure that the players in the club would be trained by at least one of the coaches at each session. All training sessions for each Fortuna Team will be conducted by a member of the University of Rhode Island Coaching Staff.

Playing Season
Fortuna RI typically trains from January to July with Tournaments throught the Spring and Summer. During the Winter the teams will train once a week and during the Spring and Summer the teams will typically train twice a week with games on most weekends. Training sessions are set up around ODP so that players may take part in both and are encouraged to do so if they wish.
We will host 3 groups for the 2008 season
1) Lambs Academy: A player development academy for girls ages 8-13. "Spring Lambs Academy" will run from from March-May on Mondays. "Summer Lambs Academy" is a day camp held in late June. "Fall Lambs Academy" will run from September-November on Mondays.
2) U-14 Fortuna Start (club team)
3) U-17 Fortuna RI (club team)
More About the Definition of the two teams

U-14 Fortuna Start and U-17 Fortuna RI are competitive teams that are
part of Jamestown Youth Soccer and will participate in a league recognized by Soccer Rhode Island; therefore the two teams are qualified to compete in State Cup. Jamestown Youth Soccer is not considered a "premier club" by Soccer Rhode Island. What does this mean for us? Absolutely nothing, it is simply semantics. It does not change the fact that the main focus of the team will be on player development and that all training sessions and games will be coached by one of the three coaches of the University of Rhode Island Women's Soccer team.
