After completing a successful first year with the U-16 Fortuna RI team (which is now the U-18 Team for 2009), the club added a second, younger, age group (U-14 Fortuna Start) in 2008 to bring the total of teams to two. For the 2009 season, we have U-15 Fortuna Start and U-18 Fortuna RI. Fortuna places a heavy emphasis on professional player development and all teams will be coached and trained by a member of the University of Rhode Island Women’s Soc
cer Staff. The goal of the club is to develop the soccer talent in the State of Rhode Island in a fun, competitive environment.
In 2008, U-14 Fortuna Start were the Rhode Island State Cup Champions in their first year of existence, and U-17 Fortuna RI were State Cup Semi-Finalists. In 2009, U-15 Fortuna Start repeated as State Cup Champions.
Playing Season
Fortuna typically trains from January to July with Tournaments throught the Spring and Summer. During the Winter the teams will train once a week and during the Spring and Summer the teams will typically train twice a week with games on most weekends. Training sessions are set up around ODP so that players may take part in both and are encouraged to do so if they wish.
We host 3 groups for the 2009 season
1) Lambs Academy: A player development academy for girls ages 8-13. The focus is on individual skill development, and teaching basic tactics through small-sided games. For 2009, we will have a "Summer Lambs Day Camp", Monday June 29-Thursday July 2, 9 am - 12 pm at URI. "Fall Lambs Academy" will run from September-November on Mondays.
2) U-15 Fortuna Start (club team) WILL BE A U-16 TEAM FOR THE 2010 SEASON
3 U-18 Fortuna RI (club team) WILL BE A U-18 TEAM FOR THE 2010 SEASON
More About the Definition of the two teams

Fortuna Start and Fortuna RI are competitive teams that are
part of Jamestown Youth Soccer and will participate in a league recognized by Soccer Rhode Island; therefore the two teams are qualified to compete in State Cup. Jamestown Youth Soccer is not considered a "premier club" by Soccer Rhode Island. What does this mean for us? Absolutely nothing, it is simply semantics. It does not change the fact that the main focus of the team will be on player development and that all training sessions and games will be coached by one of the three coaches of the University of Rhode Island Women's Soccer team.
